About us

St Michael's was created in 1998, with the support of Plymouth Diocese and Religious Daughters of the Cross Plymouth, by an exceptional group of teachers, families and parishioners who wished to continue the important work of Catholic Secondary education after the closure of Tremough Convent school the same year.

St Michael's has developed greatly over the years and its future is secure as a Registered Charity and company limited by guarantee. Its dedicated and experienced Board of Directors are appointed by the trustees who work closely with the Head teacher and management team to constantly maintain and improve provision for all pupils, teachers and support staff.

The school is currently financed by affordable donations from parents, donations from supporters, educational trusts and fundraising activities; this makes it an independent school “with a difference”.

St Michael's has just received the wonderful News it is to become the first State funded Catholic secondary in Cornwall from September 2012.  The Free school bid  for a larger Catholic secondary school of 300, situated in the Old County Grammar school Camborne with classes of around 20, has now been approved by the Department for Education.  The New School is now at the Pre Opening Stage.

Many thanks to all involved and for all support received.

Everyone is able to take part in the school sailing club. Pupils gain valuable experience both in and out of the classroom making learning both relevant and good fun!

"Small beginnings greater ends".  St Michael's takes pride in its excellent teacher to pupil ratio as this enables every pupil to receive the best of teaching and pastoral care.

Pupils benefit from the latest technology together with excellent traditional teaching methods which combines "the best of the old and new".
